About Permanent Eyeliner:
Permanent eyeliner is a wonderful way to define and enhance the shape and natural beauty of your eyes. Running a quick errand, going to the pool, working out, etc.… are never a problem for your eyeliner again. No smudging or smearing will occur.
Permanent Eyeliner is available in any desired color. Typically, the most used colors for eyeliner are: Black, Brown, Blue, and Green.
After your initial session, a “touch-up” session is recommended for the best long-term results. Healing time is 4-6 weeks. We can’t do a retouch any sooner. There is also and additional charge for each touch-up session. Most eyeliners require only 1 touch up session, 4-6 weeks afterward. However, in some cases more touch-ups might be necessary. Everyone heals differently. After perfecting your eyeliner, it can last for years. A “touch-up” session is recommended every 12-18 months to keep the colors fresh and consistent.
Before your apt:
When scheduling an appointment date for a permanent eyeliner procedure, keep in mind the healing time of the procedure. You may need a few days afterward without social plans or strenuous activity. You may not look your best (swelling, oozing, & looks like wet paint) so plan activities around the house. Everyone reacts differently. I pray you’ll tell me you did amazing!
Do not have a procedure right before going on vacation because:
1) You need healing time – you will not look like you had a makeover at the mall, 2) You may not be able to avoid sun, wind, or other items listed in post-care instructions, 3) If you have a question or permanent makeup problem it would be best to be near your permanent makeup artist and local physician.
Do not wear your good clothes for the procedure because pigment might splatter on them. Pigment washes out of most clothes, but better safe than sorry. Wear something comfortable.
Clients on prescription medications should check with their doctor regarding interactions, especially those on heart medications or blood thinners. Some medications and herbs can increase swelling and bleeding. Never discontinue a medication your doctor has recommended for you without consulting him or her. Consult with your doctor to see if you can go off these medications for 24 hours prior to the procedure. If not, then permanent makeup is not recommended. The same goes for alcohol. These things can cause excessive bleeding which will result in poor color retention.
Antihistamines like Benedryl taken before the procedure may reduce swelling and help you relax. Benedryl also helps eyes not be so watery during eyeliner procedures. Watery eyes can dilute the pigment that is being implanted.
* Do not wear contact lens during the procedure or for 24 hrs after.
* Bring sunglasses to wear home. Eyes may be light sensitive.
* Do not dye or perm lashes for 2 days prior.
* Do not use eyelash curler the day of the procedure.
* Eyelash extensions MUST be removed prior to your permanent eyeliner procedure. You will not be able to have them reapplied for at least 6 weeks, after the final touch-up session.
*Do not use lash growth serum for at least 6 weeks before or after your procedure.
* If you have had any type of eye surgery, consult with the physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent eyeliner procedure. Most physicians are giving a 2 month ok after cataract, lasik, and blepharoplasty.
The Procedure:
You’re welcome to wear your eyeliner into the appointment, WITHOUT MASCARA, but this is not necessary. By wearing the eyeliner, it allows me to see how you like it. DO NOT WEAR MASCARA the day of your apt.
Before we start your session, we’ll discuss the thickness and placement of your eyeliner line. Then, we’ll apply topical numbing cream. Once the waiting time is over for the creams to start working, we’ll begin.
I use a machine for all of my eyeliner sessions. Your eyes will be closed for the entire procedure, usually. Usually, I hear from my clients that they feel very little pain, if any at all. Typically, it’s just an annoying feeling from the vibration of the machine. Also, we stretch the skin around the eye to ensure a straight, even line. Everyone is different. Some people feel more than others. I can’t guarantee that you will feel noting, but that’s always the goal.
Your session should take about 2 hours. Remember to bring your sunglasses in case your eyes are sensitive to light.
Permanent Eyeliner Aftercare:
Apply cold compresses as needed for swelling and redness if needed. You may develop some swelling the day of or the following morning when you wake up. This should be the worst of the swelling. Apply cold compress for 10 minutes upon arising from bed and throughout the day as needed. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated may help reduce swelling. Swelling is a natural reaction of your body to trauma. It is the first step in the healing process so do not be alarmed. Do Not Use Ice directly it is too cold, separate the skin from the ice with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Your body will form a thin crust or scab over your eyeliner. This is Natures Bandage. It is important that the crust stays intact so the permanent eyeliner can heal correctly from the inside out. DO NOT pick at the crust. Taking it off will not make your eyeliner lighter, it could pull out color before it is healed and cause blotchiness and increase the risk of infection.
Rinse your eyes out with baby shampoo, eye wash, visine, or clean water in the morning and evening for first 48 hours to rinse out any accumulated pigment that may be left. You must use a small amount of Vaseline, A&D Ointment, or Aquaphor around the eyeliner as needed for comfort. VERY LITTLE ointment is needed.
Do not wear contact lenses for at least 24 hours after your eyeliner procedure. Make sure any tenderness, redness and swelling have completely gone away before using contacts. Pressure from contacts can irritate tender tissue around eye.
Avoid mascara completely for after your eyeliner application and for at least a week. Then use a NEW tube only on the tips of lashes. NO WATERFROOF mascara until completely healed (4-6 weeks).Never apply peroxide or steroid creams around your eyes.
You can wear makeup around, but not on top of your permanent eyeliner for at least the first 7 days, or until the skin appears healed. Remember your skin is in a delicate condition after tattooing. How you treat it is as important as how I do the procedure.
Your color will appear darker until it heals than you expect. This will soften as it heals. Permanent eyeliner is not meant to take the place of dramatic evening makeup. You may need to add to your eyeliner, once healed, to achieve a dark dramatic effect. This is normal.
Gently wash your face, shampooing is fine. Do not let any fragranced lotions, or creams with exfoliants or alpha hydroxyl acids near your eyes while healing. If you have questions about skin care products just keep them away from eye area for a few days to be on the safe side.
Please call me with any questions or if you have any side affects you think may be excessive while healing. Avoid direct sun, salt water and chlorine for 10 days after eyeliner.
