There are many advantages and reasons to treat yourself to permanent lip color, including never having to worry about your lipstick leaving stains on the side of a cup while you’re enjoying your coffee, or disappearing while you’re having a meal with friends. Many happy clients have talked about how often they took a bite out of a sandwich and discovered lipstick on the bread, and realized they wound up eating their lipstick, but with permanent lip color, this is no longer a concern.
You can quickly and easily obtain the lips you have dreamed of having now and for many years to come, by enhancing your appearance with permanent lip color. This simple procedure will leave you with beautiful and natural-looking lips.
Other Benefits of Permanent Lip Color:
- Add missing Cupid’s bow above your lip
- Add shape to your mouth
- Eliminate lipstick “bleeding” into fine lines around your mouth
- Give your lips a fuller look if they appear too thin, in some cases. However, you may need lip fillers from a licensed esthetician for more fullness. This procedure is very minimal for fullness.
- Smooth vermillion edges by tattooing shape and defining borders
- Eliminate worry about needing to touch- up lipstick
As we age, our facial features begin to lose color. When this begins to happen with our lips, the color starts to fade, the vermillion edges appear to lose definition, and we start looking pale without lipstick. Permanent lip color instantly alleviates this sign of aging by providing you with fuller looking, and beautifully colored lips that look very natural giving you a more youthful appearance.
Possible Cold Sore Breakout:
If you’ve ever had a cold sore, having your lips tattooed may/can cause a breakout on or around the lips. To minimize the chances of this happening (never guaranteed), it’s advisable that you take the prescribed antiviral medication or over the counter L-lysine one week prior and after your procedure. However, a prescription from your doctor or dentist may be needed as the over-the-counter medications may not be as strong. Sever breakouts can occur and may require oral medicine prescribed by your doctor. Please discuss the possibilities of breakouts with your doctor or pharmacist prior to your procedure. Even if you follow all the precautions, please be aware that you may still get a cold sore(s) after having your lips tattooed, even if you’ve never experienced a breakout before.
*****Prior to your session, it’s necessary to do a “sugar scrub” to eliminate any dry skin that might be laying on the surface. ********
What to expect during the procedure:
- Answer any additional questions you may have
- The lips are inspected for any suspicious areas that might be a concern.
- Desired color is chosen.
- Topical anesthetic is applied.
- Lip lining and client approval of final shape
- A tattoo machine is used to implant pigment into the skin.
- Topical anesthetic (Tetracaine, Lidocaine, Epinephrine) is reapplied throughout the session to keep client comfortable
****Lips can and most likely will swell. Someties they can swell at least 1-3 times their normal size during the session, and can last up to 3 days*** This is normal, but to be anticipated, just in case.
After Care Instructions for Lip Tattooing
Immediately after the procedure your lips will appear swollen and much darker than the color that was decided upon during the consultation, the color will subside over the next week. Your lips will feel very tender and tight. They may even have a tingling sensation if you’ve had a full lip treatment. Lips can take up to a week to “appear” healed. The will start a peeling process approx 3-5 days after the procedure. However, true healing won’t take place for up to 4-6 weeks.
After the procedure, I will give you ointment (Aquaphor) that should be applied as needed.
Avoid hot liquids, spicy foods, large sandwiches or sweating
- No lipstick for at least 7-10 days (until peeling is completed)
- No picking, peeling, opening mouth too wide, or activity that might stretch your lips
What to expect each day:
Day 1 NOTHING ON LIPS except damp cloth for blotting if needed
Day 2-3 Lips will be dry and slightly rough, some peeling may occur
Day 4-6 Peeling may be in full motion, do not pick or pull the peeling skin. Allow it to exfoliate on its own. At this time, a small amount of ointment can be used on the wet area and outer corners, it will migrate on its own. Use only for comfort in small amounts.
Day 7-30 Lips will be chapped and require moisture. Color may appear lighter a this stage, as healing continues. The color will “bloom” in the coming days/weeks.
Day 30 Your final “Touchup” session, if needed, should be scheduled. During this session, inconsistent pigment that may have occurred will be corrected and the lip line will be crisped and refreshed for more beautiful results!
**If cold sore breakout occurs, healing will be delayed**
Long Term Care:
It’s advisable to wear moisturizer with a sunscreen to protect pigment from the sun. Sun, tanning beds, Retin-A Cream & Chemical peels will tend your permanent makeup more quickly.
A cosmetic tattoo can last a shorter or longer period depending on your skin type, color, etc., as well as how quickly your metabolism metabolizes the pigments. Results vary with each person. There are no guarantees offered or implied in regards to how long your permanent lip tattoo will last. It’s recommended that a “refresher” procedure be done every 18 months – 2 years to keep the lips looking their best!
*****ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION*****
As discussed prior to your initial lip tattoo procedure, you may need an additional “Touchup” procedure. Sometimes this is necessary for the ultimate success of your lip tattooing. Sometimes, there are spots that didn’t heal as expected, we’ll address those areas during a touchup. The recommended time frame is 4-6 weeks after your initial procedure, but you can do it any time. *”Touchup/Refresher” fees will apply. **Please see the above pull-down menu for pricing information.** or click this link: Pricing (missysink.com)
During this session, we will address any issues that may have occurred during the healing process such as inconsistent color, shape, etc. Whether or not you do a full lip retouch or just a lip line “perfecting” retouch, you should expect to follow the same guidelines for healing as before. Healing time will also vary on the extent of the retouch you have done.
